Last year I noticed a prominent company in the Southern California market that had a PPC (Pay-per-Click) Google campaign going pretty hot with a title line of “Best Voted for Pest Control in San Diego.” I had wondered who in fact voted for them and they referred me to the USLBA. Today I saw another San Diego Pest Control company that states they were awarded “Best of Carlsbad.” What nonsense!
So I did a few Google searches and came up with some instructive links on this scam organization that allows you to pay for a business award. Perhaps a company deserves a business award for being smart enough to fool the public.
It bothers me when companies take short cuts to success, attempting to fool the public. They certainly don’t fool their peers. At some point it may be necessary to identify this kind of conduct with the structural pest control board as false and misleading advertisement, but until then they will simply be entered into the Hall of Disrespect.
On a positive note, there are so many companies doing the right thing. They are acquiring legitimate certifications, donating money and time to local charities and participating in professional organizations to listen, learn and improve standards of practice. They make a profit the old fashion way, with honest labor each and every day.
